All waited patiently,
as I thoughtfully signed each hot off the press copy of
'Cookie Cat & The Tagalongs'.
Such a warm and friendly customer base.
Thank you to Park Road Books.
Words from everyone were warm, kind and very supportive.
It was great to share the concept behind my story.
I consider it a bonus when I get to interact with young readers.
Many readers were eager to hear more about the book before deciding on its purchase. It was the ideal opportunity to answer some of the why‘ questions.
Chatting it up with readers was my favorite thing.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the head masters office door fully decorated with clippings from my book and my website. Such an honor.
Do you notice all the unicorn clippings? Somehow, they've figured me out.
I received the warmest welcome from everyone at B'Nai Shalom Day School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Such a pleasant atmosphere. I didn't wanna leave!
Before exiting the building, I learned there was a book fair going on... so of course,
I made a U-turn.
I was limited to one book, ' Out of my mind', by Sharon M. Draper was my top choice.
Thank you Susan & all your faculty members for such a memorable experience.
These littles were prepared with 'Cupcake the Lying Unicorn' ready for autographs. It was great to hear everyone say the name of my book title without having to look on the actual book. When asked what is the name of the author we have visiting with us today, they were quick to reference my full name.
I smiled SO big!
I felt like a superstar.
I am humbled.
How lucky am I?
When the third and fourth graders learned that I will soon celebrate my 10th birthday, they decided to sing birthday wishes to me in Hebrew.
Prior to birthday wishes; these guys asked so many good questions:
How long did it take you to write 'Cupcake The Lying Unicorn'?
Why did you choose a Unicorn?
How did you come up with the book title?
Who is your favorite character in the story and why?
Can you sing us happy birthday in Mandarin?
If not an author, what would you want to be when you grow up?
Why did your first book take one day to write but your second book took one year?
Have you traveled outside the country?
When did you start writing?
The quality of the education at B'nai Shalom Day School was discernible.
I had the joy of sharing with K-4th grade students, and it was such fun. Artistic skills showed up when all were asked to draw a picture of what they think Cupcake's friends should look like- based on the details of the story.
Many colorful and creative art pieces were received. Some students opt for the visiting Author to keep their drawings.
Drawings included a unicorn Frog and a flying Pig. One or more of these drawings could inspire my next illustration.
Thank you friends for your hard work and creativity! So many fun ideas.
Brooke took the opportunity to share her story of 'Cupcake The Lying Unicorn' with some Kindergartners during Read Across America Week back in 2022'.
They asked and commented:
“What does Cupcake look like?”
“Can I touch your hand?”
“I like your rainbow dress”
These little ones were so engaged.
Brooke shared her book with some friends over at Primrose Fort Mill, in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
This was such a meaningful experience for Brooke. She graduated from this very school at age five. According to Brooke, she was "nervously excited" to share her story. Way to go, Brooke!
Thank you to Primrose Fort Mill for inviting me to share my story.
It was a pleasure to give back to the community that helped to cultivate my interest in reading.
